Sheekey's Speakeasies or Why My Mother Stops Happiness

I first met Hardeep Singh Kohli at a Literary Death Match in groovy East London. We were both extremely important contributors to that event. He was a judge, and sat on the stage wittily dissecting the warring authors, and I sat in the back eating pizza and falling in love with one of the poets, Sean Cody Mahoney.

Hardeep and I both have new gigs nowadays. I'm spending much of my time avoiding my frightening new personal trainer (Su with no 'e'), and he's hosting the Sunday Sheekey's Speakeasies, at the J Sheekey oyster bar. http://www.jsheekeyoysterbar.co.uk/sheekey-speakeasies/

Every second Sunday of the month, Sheekey's oyster bar is host to some of the funnest musical acts I've ever seen. (The 'avoiding my personal trainer thing is not taking up all of my time. I'm spending a fair bit stalking Hardeep and trying to steal his material).

You sit at the bar alongside world class performers (upcoming acts include The Showstoppers! and Isy Suttie), working your way through an absurdly good 4 course set menu, drinking cocktails and wondering why life isn't always exactly like a Woody Allen movie.

I'd be hard pushed to find a better way to spend a Sunday. In fact, it's such a good thing to do that I've invited my Mother. After all, as Stephen Fry said, 'this made me very, very happy'. So naturally, I wouldn't want that to last.
