'Big Brother' 2014 - Week Nine Recap

And then there were six. Whether or not they are the right six, I cannot say I believe all the finalists are entirely deserving of their place in the final week of Big Brother, but it is a game at the end of the day and this series has been an odd one so far, that's for sure.

And then there were six. Whether or not they are the right six, I cannot say I believe all the finalists are entirely deserving of their place in the final week of Big Brother, but it is a game at the end of the day and this series has been an odd one so far, that's for sure.

A week or two ago, this series had reached a point where I actually believed that the house divide was no longer. It seemed that Ashleigh and Helen had finally settled their differences and pushed all tension aside in order to form a united front and enjoy their last couple of weeks together in the Big Brother house. As Big Brother made certain, when money comes into the equation, people's true colours come out. As much as the remaining housemates had tried to avoid confrontation with one another, fireworks exploded and all efforts to maintain civilised living had been pushed aside. Ironically, the additional £15,000 that the housemates had fought amongst themselves over was not even secured by the end of the week which meant that housemates provided another week of delightful drama for no cost at all.

Watching the downfall of Mark was a shame to see. His love/hate relationship with Christopher reached boiling point, bringing the worst out of his character, which Big Brother always manages to do. Following a number of explosive fights between the pair, the viewers chose to evict him on Friday's double, which I was sad to witness when reminiscing on how Mark was once the favourite to win only a number of weeks back. Only minutes later, the biggest shock of the series took place, when Winston was given the second boot of the night. Due to a last minute "anti-cool kid" Twitter campaign, this demonstrated the strength of Ashleigh's fan base, proving that the viewers had done all they could to stick their fingers up at Helen by removing another close friend of hers from the final lineup. Despite the fact I believe Winston was definitely deserving of being in the final, we all love a good shock and one this certainly was.

With only a couple of days to go, the battle of the "cool kids" and underdogs will soon reach its end. I still find it hard to believe that one of my housemates will receive a £100,000 but all I can do is hope that a deserving person wins.

I would love to see Christopher win; a housemate who has not always been treated fairly throughout the series and has evidently been overlook in recent weeks, especially when viewing the track-record of housemate nominations.

Ashleigh has proven to be a smart cookie throughout this series and much to Helens dislike become one of the most powerful individuals in later weeks. I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing Ashleigh become more calculating over the series and grow over recent weeks, whilst winning over the public as well.

I find Chris to have been one of the most interesting and unique characters over the series, breaking away from stereotypical Big Brother housemate convention. As a voice of reason to the public throughout the majority of the series and someone to have offered intellect and insight to the show he is a more than deserving finalist in my opinion.

My opinion of Ash was high in the early days of the series, given that he was laid-back, easy going and quite amusing. I don't think he has proved to be a key character even as more housemates have been evicted, and similarly to what I wrote in my last week's post I do not think he has brought enough to the show to deserve a winner's title. I feel Ash's opinion of himself is primarily made up by his own perception of his physical appearance. I would hate to see someone win for the sole purpose of being seen as eye-candy throughout a memorable series.

Regardless of whether or not Pav only came in half way, I feel he will promptly be forgotten about once the finale has commenced, therefore with that being said his place in the finale is also pointless. If one newbie had to make the finale, I would have much rather seen Biannca make it!

Finally, Helen as we all know has merely made it to the final due to her pass she was granted on day two. Has she been a key character throughout the series? Yes. Do I think she deserves to win? No. Not only do I think that her use of the "journey" card is entirely plotted, but regardless of whether or not she has learned a number of lessons I do not feel she was of deserving of being in the house long enough to have experienced a journey. At the end of the day, whoever could have been rewarded that pass to the finale instead of Helen could have had a journey in their own right.

My Predictions: If I had to name the winner of Big Brother now then I think Ashleigh has bagged it. I think Christopher will come second to her followed by Helen and Ash. Given that this series has been a battle between the "cool" and "uncool" kids, both of them appear to have supporters out there, especially with the rationale that Helen has changed after all to many. and therefore why I do not think she will be out first on the night of the finale. I reckon Pav will be the first evictee of the night, with Chris to leave in fifth place. Of course, if any of my three friends win the show I will be extremely happy and proud. I'll be seeing you on Friday.
