Today Adele was confirmed at the top of the UK's Official Albums Chart (no surprise there) - but with a sales total which is breath-taking. In seven days, her third album 25 sold 800,307 copies. To reiterate, that is the highest total for any Number 1 album ever. That's ever.
I'm looking forward to working with Holly in the near future with the Raise Her Voice project to ensure we support the young women that need our help.
Everyone knows that accessories can transform an outfit, so why not apply the same logic when it comes to Halloween? It plays well for those who aren't into going all out but want to join in a bit on the dressing up front, but it doesn't even mean you can't go in character either. Some celebrities' accessories are their calling card, you just have to put a bit of thought into your outfit.
With Adele's new album '25' out, some critics have asked whether Adele has enough 'fodder' to fuel the heartfelt lyrics and emotion we've come to expect in her previous albums.
Anyway, that's not the point. The point is I've extended a sodding olive branch. Why don't we collaborate? Hell, there's still time to organise a photoshoot for an Adkins/Richie festive greetings card. HELLO... AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS.
Adele's latest single came out today, and as expected, she's cut right through everyone's tough exterior, taken a flashlight to our communal solar ple...
The unapologetically profane Nicki Minaj summed it up when she asked: 'Why do people ask me to lose swear words? Do people ask Eminem to lose swear words? Do they ask Lil Wayne to lose swear words?'
Adele was brought up by a single mum who struggled for money but provided her daughter with a stable and loving home. That Adele is now wanting to do the same should be supported and applauded, not attacked as a sign of selfishness. It is the egotistical rock star who wants to play God that is selfish.
Usually nothing David Cameron says affects the music industry. This week he's shaken the whole UK scene up by announcing that from October, music videos will go through the same classification system as films and other video content, in an attempt to give parents more information to protect children from "graphic content".
Last night saw the announcement of the nominees for this year's AIM Independent Music Awards, and as I watched our presenters reveal the labels and artists that feature in this year's nominees list, I felt great pride that I get to work with the people responsible for some of the best music in the world.
Kate Bush remains sexy in a way that few girls on today's pop catwalk might properly understand. Hers is a power that comes from within, based on self-belief, power of vocal expression, and an internal keg of passion almost mystical in its creation. With the word bandied around these days to describe anyone who looks half-decent on Instagram, Kate Bush really is a living, breathing goddess.
There is music which crosses your path, and totally changes the direction you take. Maybe it was playing at the moment you took a certain fork in the road, like a soundtrack to your life, or maybe they were the motivation for the decision. I have ten such songs.
Who wouldn't want to spend the day messing about in the park with Brooklyn Beckham or Suri Cruise? Victoria Beckham and Katie Holmes make it look fun, stylish and easy. Maybe you fancy minding baby Cambridge for Kate and Wills, or you'd like the globetrotting experience that working for Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt could offer.
So if American accents historically sell better, why does Boy George's singing style sound so passé? One word: Adele. Oasis, Coldplay and the Arctic Monkeys may have paved the way, but in terms of commercial and critical success, Adele is a genuine game changer when it comes to British-sounding vocals.
Dunc liked to play music loud, whatever the genre, and I often found myself becoming slightly irked by the volume, particularly if I'd had a busy day or was feeling stressed. As a result, I was surprised that I felt the need to listen to a lot of music, and at quite some volume, in the early days following Dunc's death.
It's now less than four weeks until the third annual AIM Independent Music Awards takes place, and last night we were finally able to reveal this year's nominees. And what a fine bunch they are! Our judges have done a terrific job this year of shining a spotlight on the wealth and diversity of talent supported by the UK's thriving independent labels.
