Bryn Estyn care home in North Wales is at the centre of child abuse allegations dating back to the 1970s.
An inquiry led by Sir Ronald Waterhouse QC was published in 2000 and resulted in changes in policy in England and Wales into how authorities deal with children in care, and to the settling of 140 compensation claims on behalf of victims of abuse.
Fresh claims allege that only a fraction of the original evidence was looked at. BBC's Newsnight broadcast an interview with Steve Messham who said he had been abused by a senior member of the Conservative party whilst living at Bryn Estyn children’s home in the 1980s.
Theresa May has ordered an inquiry into the historic and fresh allegations. The Waterhouse inquiry will also be investigated to see if any claims were ignored.
