It was like Christine Bleakley was plucked out of thin air to become the co-host of the BBC’s The One Show alongside Adrian Chiles in 2007. While barely known outside of her native Northern Ireland then, in just a few years she had become a household name in the UK.
Christine’s started as a lowly runner at BBC Northern Ireland but after training to become a floor manager, the young Christin started a politics degree at Queen's University in Belfast. She later quit uni to join radio station Belfast CityBeat as a news reader and presenter.
She landed a plethora of TV roles in Northern Ireland - Sky High in 2004 saw her make like Anneka Rice in a helicopter around her native country, then weekly entertainment show First Stop and cookery slot Spill The Beans. Christine’s talent was soon recognised on the mainland, and in 2006 she became the co-host of BBC Two variety show Let Me Entertain You, alongside comedian Brian Conley.
Christine scooped a presenting role on The One Show, filling in for a pregnant Myleene Klass. As the bubbly brunette bonded with Adrian Chiles, she became so popular that she was invited to stay on the show.
However, ITV were keen to poach her, and once her BBC contract ended in December 2010, she and Adrian moved to the sofas of their revamped breakfast show Daybreak, netting her millions of pounds. Although rumours surfaced that she and Chiles were an item, Christine quashed them by revealing that she was dating footballer Frank Lampard, who she got engaged to in 2011. After a poor reception, Christine and Adrian were axed from the Daybreak sofa after 15 months in the role, but Christine wasn't without a job for long as she replaced Holly Willoughby as Phillip Schofield's co-host on Dancing On Ice in 2012.
