Every year we say Christmas is a time for hope. And every Christmas I find myself asking people to think of homeless people all year round, not just at Christmas. My hope is that we all remember homeless charities like ours are supporting people all year round. Not just at Christmas.
The recession has cut charity donations since 2008 in real terms - after adjustment for inflation - to the tune of about £900 million. Philanthropy in the UK has plummeted by almost a third between 2009 and 2010.
No one should be forced to spend Christmas Day alone and I urge you to take a bit of time out from all the parties, gift wrapping and festivities to spread Christmas cheer to an older person you know this festive season.
