They call it "cross-modal perception". It comes from the magical and wonderful place in our brain where our different senses cross over a bit - where the signals get blurred. For a while it was called synesthesia. Now, as with a lot of things, what was once considered fringe behavior for the more special amongst us is now seen as something all of us are wired into - to a greater or lesser extent.
With even a small garden this can be short-sighted (especially given the interconnectedness of ecosystems; an issue noted by many gardeners and farmers when their crops fail) but for the time being, given space constraints, I've focused on plants that can provide new flavours for my food and cocktails.
The Secret Garden is one of the most refreshing and delicious drinks we've tasted recently; served in a coupe glass, the combination of Beefeater 24 Gin, Midori and cucumber makes for a pretty pale green coloured drink with a frothy egg white top and a sprig of thyme garnish. It's practically summer in a glass.
The night rounded off with what could only be the most embarrassing and funny thing in the whole of TGI's... receiving our burger face pictures. When it comes to whisky, we like to keep things simple. Neat, on the rocks, or mixed with coke - that's how we know and love it. New York Magazine's food blog Grub Street echoed this recently when it described flavoured whisky as 'The Beginning of The End' and filed it under Desecrations. I mean, why try to fix something which isn't broken?
A sense of value is a funny thing. Good value definitely doesn't always mean cheap. This'll be plainly obvious to all of us having bought a cheaper alternative to only find it break on first use. It however, also certainly doesn't mean the most expensive - there are plenty of products on the market that are simply there to exploit those with more money than sense.
The Sweet Potato fries were some of the best I've ever had and were the perfect combination of crispy coating and fluffy potato sprinkled in Paprika. We thought we should try the Cassava Chips since they are 'the Brasilian French Frie' but they were a little bland for both our tastes and we didn't really enjoy them.

Alcohol is a wonderful preservative. Most beverages themselves are a means of carrying through crops through times of surplus into times of scarcity. Grain would rot and bread would stale, but beer, and particularly Whisky was easier to transport, provided a greater range of nutrients and crucially, would not spoil.
