Educated at Ruabon Grammar School, David studied law at University College, London before returning to North Wales to set up a legal practice. Before becoming an MP, David was senior partner in his own firm based in Llandudno. David was elected as a Member of Parliament in May 2005. In November 2006, David was appointed Shadow Deputy Secretary of State for Wales. David was re-elected as the Member of Parliament for Clwyd West in May 2010, and was appointed as the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State shortly after his re-election. David was appointed Secretary of State for Wales in the Cabinet reshuffle of September 2012. David is married to Sara, who is a nurse, and they live along the North Wales Coast. They have two sons. He broadcasts frequently on television and radio and is well known in North Wales and Cheshire as a public speaker. David is a keen supporter of Liverpool Football Club.
