When we re-homed Dudley, a loveable but nervous Cocker Spaniel last year following the death of Roxy, our beloved Cairn Terrier, my children observed that we had gone from a dog that was my wife in dog form, to my doggy alter ego.
Last week we were all shocked by the heartbreaking photos of Hope the dog who was found emaciated and half the weight she should have been. She was described by a vet as the thinnest dog she'd seen alive.
Apparently we are still a nation of dog lovers. Most of us are still concerned by the mistreatment of animals. But how long will this last if we are fed messages by the media informing us that pets are disposable or exploitable?
I have been wondering about this for some time now and really should have put it on to paper earlier. However, sometimes you think to yourself that maybe you are on the wrong track, and should spend your time more productively. I do a lot of thinking, little end result, but a lot of thinking!
