I've often said that planning a party sorts the men from the boys. It's either a total shambles, with relations strained and blood shed; or as easy as, well, organising a piss up in a brewery. And as a barman working in bars that sees every single type of party, I've been privy to a few 'do's (and the very definition of don'ts) in my time.
London's marathon this weekend offers us an opportunity for an immediate response. Let the politicians, security services and 24 hour news handle the pursuit of justice and let's stick to what we can do. To extend the sense of community that we saw in Boston and to show defiance to the perpetrators I think we have to turn out and support London's brave 26 milers this weekend.
Getting on a bus in Doncaster was always painful, but that was largely due to the fourteen year olds shouting from the back seat of the bus and scaring me to ever venture past the seats for the elderly or disabled. There are much bigger worries for the London bus traveller...
The truth is, for whatever reason, we're not all runners. Walking on the other hand, that's something anyone can get into.
This week we've got some electronic genius, a few old faces in new guises, some quirky folk and the latest contender to take the pop kingdom by storm. Sound good? You wait til you hear the tunes...

As The Beatles' 'Tomorrow Never Knows' fades out over the PA, the feedback groan of Barrie Cadogan's Gibson splits the air, a white umbilical guitar lead coiling obscenely into the amp. Food gives me the kind of life-affirming pleasure nothing else can. Case in point: breakfast. Herein, then, lie five clichéd life lessons as learned at the ultimate greedy gastronomic hedonist's feast known as All-You-Can-Eat Brunch.
As a cyclist myself, I congratulate Boris on scaling up his transport ambitions and recognising the benefits of making London a cycle friendly city; if just some of his plans go through, they will be a great victory for cycling in London. The plans however face many obstacles...
I am deeply disturbed by the volume of misogynistic vitriol being spouted by certain members of the British public in the wake of Margaret Thatcher's death. What disturbs me the most is not that people are aggressively disagreeing with her politics, but that people are genuinely rejoicing at the death of another person - a mother and a grandmother.
