If you don't need a bit of a detox after a trip to Las Vegas then you aren't doing it right. But why not indulge in some TLC while you are still there? Aria is one of the newest five star hotels to land in the Nevada town and it is a tower of glamour, offering a huge menu of treatments in a vast luxury spa far, far away from the casino halls and neon lights.
The Crusoe-chic Islands of the Seychelles are one of the top luxury relaxation destinations in the world. A favourite amongst the glitteratti, from royals to rock stars, the scattered archipelago houses some of the most lavish accommodations in the Indian Ocean - with some wonderful state of the art spas to boot...
One of the most enticing aspects of renting someone else's home in another country for a little while: the chance to live in your fantasy house/castle/boat/apartment without the type of income that drives you to wear a paper bag over your head and pontificate about sardines in the manner of dear, humble Shia Le Boeuf.
Ohh la la... The Shangri-La's reputation definitely precedes it, possibly as one of the world's most luxurious hotels. Stepping into the lobby - a little oasis in the heart of Sydney's CBD (Central Business District) you feel a sense of old world grandeur that you don't find much of in Sydney's kicking modern city.
It's pitch dark, and we're driving through a tiny Irish village best known for its ancient Christian heritage and fishing - not for luxury spa hotels. And yet as our friendly chauffeur, Sean, turns past the beach, windswept and foreboding on a dark January night, we approach the Cliff House Hotel...
Back behind the wheel, with my trusty giant Twix nestling in my glove compartment, ready to grant me the benison of its exquisite chocolate, caramel and biscuit melange when a sugar crisis raises its head. Even now, as I guzzle the chocolate stick I cannot resist pretending I am smoking a cigar, something I have never done in real life!
In the lower level of the hotel, the spa is discreet and quiet, and has a magnificent original apothecary display. You feel as though you are Alice in her slightly eccentric Wonderland. The door to your treatment room has an Alice style mirror with the number of your room - the door opens as you approach it, as if by magic!
One place that is inescapable in 2014 is Brazil. It will be beamed round the world when the World Cup kicks off on June 12. It's a country that has been growing in popularity with the type of couple looking for an experiential honeymoon that combines adventure and relaxation. South and Central America continue to capture the imagination with emerging destinations such as Nicaragua.
You may think it strange that winter is my favourite season to visit Cumbria - but this is the time of year its' landscapes are most dramatic. Dawn mists rising over the lakes, crisp frost glistening on the heathers, and serene muted winter tones. It's breathtaking - sometimes, curiously haunting...
Few tourists are familiar with the name, but Ras Al Khaimah is being widely touted as the next Dubai. RAK, as it's known locally, is one of the "other" emirates, along with oil-rich Abu Dhabi, that make up the United Arab Emirates.Few tourists are familiar with the name, but Ras Al Khaimah is being widely touted as the next Dubai. I visualise - for relaxation, sometimes during yoga, to get to sleep or if I'm just feeling a bit 'fed up'. I've got a few places I go to. Sometimes country hills or mountains, more often somewhere near the sea; a white sand beach with crystal clear waters. One of my favourite places is the reception terrace at Four Seasons Resort, Koh Samui.
