I am very bad at painting my nails. As far as I can tell, painting the dominant hand with the non-dominant hand is as tricky as finding the perfect lipstick, jean or bobble hat, all tasks I wouldn't wish on an enemy. But I am particularly inept.

I love busting out a silver shimmer- it's my go-to, year-round shade for adding sparkle to an outfit and I'm never without my Elsa Peretti for Tiffany open heart hoop style earrings, one of many silver chains and my beloved Frank Gehry torque ring but it's not just for jewellery. My disco ball style silver nails have been drawing lots of unsolicited compliments of late and I would lend someone my kitten for a pair of the silver Isabel Marant wedge heel trainers, pictured below.

Why the sudden craze for crazy nails? Maybe it's thanks to the fashion industry, because nail art is clearly having a fashion moment too. Unusual nails were big news on the autumn/winter 2012 catwalks, lead by the London designers.

The campaign to re-elect President Obama has spent $10,000 stocking up on nail polish which it will then sell to supporters in $40 branded gift sets....

This Halloween weekend I'll be locking the door and treating myself to a long-overdue home pampering session using some of the most bewitching make-up and skincare around. N.B.: Trick or Treaters, it's nothing personal - please don't egg my house.
