With age and hindsight I can see the folly of my ways as a teenage girl but I was not a victim. I was playing with fire. I don't suggest that this is a common experience, but it was mine. I am not a rape apologist and do not condone child sexual abuse.
We must never forget how physical and emotional harm from sexual abuse can damage children's lives. The NSPCC believes that justice and protection for children should come above the civil liberties of a convicted sex offender who clearly had no regard for a child's right to be protected from abuse.
You will be shocked to learn that fewer than one in 10 of more than 20,000 sexual assaults against children reported to police last year resulted in a conviction. These are serious crimes that include rape, incest and abuse of children through to prostitution and pornography.
One thing that really struck me from getting to know the prisoners - there was the moral code they lived by. The code seemed bizarre and contradictory to a naive yet inquisitive man like me. Some staff members called it the "con code".
