After the Easter scoff-fest, and as magazines begin to herald the latest way to get a 'Beach Ready Body' for Summer, minds may well be turning back to those abandoned gym resolutions. Upon discovering that I couldn't walk up the stairs without having to have a lie down, I decided that it was time to face my ultimate fear. Exercise. I got up early, planned a route for a run and hunted through my wardrobe for suitable. I found an enormous sail of a T-shirt, leggings and a pair of Topshop boots (the closest footwear to trainers that I own).
Barretoned classes are taken in socks, and for once I was wearing a matching pair. Less fortuitously, I was wearing a matching pair of fluorescent green socks, a purchase several years ago from an American K-Mart. I'm going all out for the classic three-stripe, totally man-made matching numbers that made such a lasting impression on me when the likes of Run DMC popularised them in the mid-1980s and have been sneaking into my wardrobe ever since.
