Rape jokes are a serious issue when they undermine the victim's self-confidence, prevent the reporting of sexual assault and lead to the blaming of victims for being too 'sexily' dressed, too drunk or just making the age-old mistake of being too female.

It's a story that's now all too familiar: A young girl is violently gang-raped by a group of boys she knows. People stand by. They don't stop it. One of the offenders snaps a picture of the victim and aggressively disseminates it. It goes viral. And people stand by. They don't stop it.

A consent culture, where both partners are encouraged to take an active role in their sex lives would lead not only to a reduction of the 'grey area', where rape can be most easily dismissed, but would also lead to more gratifying sex for both men and women.
