I can't wait until Jamie Oliver's new 'Money Saving Meals' is broadcast. Everywhere I turn, it is Great British Budget Menus, frugal blogs and rising food prices. Jamie's tasked himself to improve the situation and he's already created massive interest with his controversial, honest and upfront comments on food poverty
Caffeine is humankind's favourite drug. It's estimated to be consumed by 80% of people worldwide, and most of us consume several doses a day. This popularity would appear to be explained in large part by caffeine's psychostimulant effect - starting the day with tea or coffee helps us wake up, and later on rescues us when our energy begins to decline.
Ruskis promises to house the largest collection of vodka in London, and assures me that their house pour is the elegant Beluga vodka. Personally, I am deeply enamoured with any alcohol which presents itself as 'elegant', as I feel assured that the more of it I drink, the more elegant I too become.
Ben is quite a character. 6 ft 6 and weighing virtually nothing, he bears his thinning swept back hair and his bold beaky nose as if he were a supermo...
Are you looking to banish those post-dinner bloating blues, trying to get rid of that muffin top or the dreaded 'food-baby'? Why not try some simple swaps to your evening meal to help you get the flat stomach that you have always dreamt of.
This latest news highlights one of the techniques supermarkets employ to get us to buy more expensive products. While I am not suggesting that every supermarket has ploys to get us at every turn, here are some different tricks that I have read about.
You guys, it's that time of the year, when the prestigious competition Miss
Universe World 2013 opens for applications. Yes! I can feel it - this is my year. As I am yet to become a UK citizen, I will first have to win the Miss Denmark round - easy schmeasy!
Dried porcini mushrooms are easy to get hold of and have loads of flavour. The addition of mint works really well with the other ingredients but be careful, as too much mint can overpower the other ingredients. Conchighlie (pasta shells) work well in this recipe as the sauce tends to get stuck in the inside of the shells. Have a great weekend!
I've been to Rotterdam a number of times, usually for art or jazz, but I always make time to visit its vibrant food markets and restaurants. The fact that it's a port means that all sorts of people come and go but many stay and have a major influence on the food culture of the city.
Hmmmmm so what to say about this tart?... Loads of magnesium, fibre, sneaky green stuff & so damn tasty no-one would ever suspect it's NOT loaded with refined sugar & processed cr@p. Serve it at your next dinner party...
On our annual visit to Montpellier last month for the Radio France music festival, we marvelled once again at how few English people seem to know about this superb festival of free jazz, classical, world and DJ gigs.
All over the UK, there have been a series of festivals hotly anticipated by the food-loving community in the know. Those uninitiated (and there are many) only hear hushed whispers of this Michelin-starred chef's new dish or that new wine tasting. I've taken a risk breaking the foodie code of silence to tell you about this festival... Well, not really but it does feel that way!
As any parent knows, getting children to eat what we want them to eat is a challenge, as is packing a healthy lunchbox that they'll actually eat. It's important to offer variety (many kids get bored easily, haven't you noticed?) as well as keeping meals high in protein, veg, fruit and fibre, and low in fat, salt and sugar. A child's lunch should provide at least a third of his or her daily nutritional requirements. Without a good midday meal youngsters struggle to concentrate in the afternoon.
This is a really good way to use spinach in a pasta dish. The cream and egg yolks and parmesan make it rich but the spinach adds great texture and flavour. The shavings of summer truffle make it even more delicious but are not essential.
Type the word picnic into Pinterest and you will be assaulted by picture perfect picnics complete with drinks served in jam jars, wicker baskets and sandwiches wrapped in string. Who is creating this shit?
Jamie is so hands-on, it's his baby and he loves it; and he really loves getting creative and pushing the boundaries of food broadcasting; I can say that I haven't had this much fun making programmes in a very long time.
