When the Big Brother format was sold by Channel 4 to Channel 5 two years ago, many predicted the demise of the reality show behemoth that had dominated TV schedules and discussions for so many years. But they had reckoned without the double whammy of Denise Welch and Julie Goodyear. During the last two series of Celebrity Big Brother, HuffPostUK Entertainment watched as these two TV doyennes livened up the house with their antics – Denise disappearing into the hot tub, and Julie behaving like a Mafia moll with whispered conspiracies to divide and unsettle her co-residents. And who’d have thought Julian Clary – quiet, shy, reserved, but always ready with a bon mot – would have made it through to be crowned the eventual winner of Celebrity Big Brother 2012? “I’ve never won anything,” he exclaimed tearfully, as he was left alone in the house. Coleen Nolan was a worthy runner-up, and Spandau Ballet’s Martin Kemp had to be applauded for keeping that smile permanently on his face. It was TV… Gold!
