I was surprisingly fine in the days after my 102 mile bike ride. In fact, smugly so. I was back in the gym, doing my normal cardio classes a couple of days later. My legs were fine. I even got back on the bike for a ride or two.
I have done it. I, Vikki Stone, have cycled 102.22 miles, in one day. It's hard to believe at the beginning of this month, I was falling over sideways in front of strangers and a dog, because I couldn't get my feet out of clip pedals.
My ride starts at 8:30am, and finishes at 6pm. That means, that to stay abreast of the van, I must aim to average at least 10mph. Yup, I'm aiming high. All I want out of this is simply not to be rescued.
Picture, if you will, you're on a bike, arriving at a beachside cafe, slowing down to almost a stop, and then just tipping over. No dramatic crash, just a slow, undignified tip. Three times I did that on my first day.
