England Vs. South Africa

We were massively disappointed to lose to Australia but the boys are all really looking forward to the next game, especially as a number of us were out in South Africa for the three-test series in the summer. It will be another big physical challenge but that's something we'll embrace.

There were lots of positives for us to take from the loss to Australia but there are certainly some improvements we'll be looking to make against the Springboks.

We have studied the video of the Australia game and the coaches have emphasised that we need to be a bit more clinical when we're in the opposition 22. This week will be a case of tightening things up across the park so we're all in good shape.

In terms of our routine, we'll continue with the pattern of strength and conditioning sessions in the mornings then field work in the afternoons. We split into forwards and backs' units and practice defence, set piece moves and open play drills.

On a personal level, I've been training as hard as possible in order to try and break into the starting XV, but Toby [Flood, who has started the previous QBE Internationals] is a fantastic player and on form, so it will be difficult. We're blessed in that we have quality in every position on the field, so there is great competition for each place in the squad. Hopefully I'll be able to make the most of any chances that I'm given.

Away from the training pitch, it's just a case of resting and recuperating between sessions. We work hard during the week so we're best prepared for each match. As a result there's not a huge amount going on in the evenings apart from DVDs, computer games and a bit of table tennis in the team room. The focus is on training and the matches, and that's how it should be.
