Five Key Pieces To See You Through Autumn/Winter 2016

Every season has it's key pieces, the indispensable: these are my top 5. If you don't already own them then you should treat yourself. They will effortlessly update your style for the cold season ahead.

If you have been following my blog for a while you will know I'm all about versatility and functionality when it comes to my wardrobe. Of course, I love looking through all the new trends but when it comes to buying and updating my wardrobe I will always look for pieces that will withstand the test of time as well as make me look on trend for the season. I honestly believe that fashion is all about cherry picking the perfect investment pieces and using them to transform old favourites.

5 Key Pieces to See you Through Autumn/Winter 2016

1. A Great Coat

A great coat is a must and a really easy way to update your Autumn/Winter style. I love this Topshop coat. Military inspired outerwear is one of the top trends of the season and this Contrast Panel Duster Coat a great representative of it. You will be able to wear this coat to death this season. It will work perfectly with pretty much every outfit you can think of. Dress it down with boyfriend jeans and trainers or dress it up with a nice dress or over the knee boots.

2. Midi Pleated Skirt

Another top trend this season is what I like to call the 'Prima Donna' trend. Think anything ballet inspired: pleats, nude tones, super feminine silhouettes and ballet pumps. I absolutely love this skirt from Stradivarius and I think it encapsulates this trend perfectly. I have to confess I already own one of this and I love it. Dress it down with a t-shirt/thick jumper and trainers or dress it up with a pretty blouse and ballet pumps.

3. A Blouse

Mustard is one of the must wear colours of AW16 and I adore this flowy, frilly blouse from Zara. As well as having a great colour it's feminine, delicate and the frills confer it a very romantic touch. Dress it down with a great pair of jeans or even a jean skirt (loving those this season too) or dress it up by tucking it in a lovely pleated skirt.

4. A Chunky knit Jumper

You cannot beat a great knit for the colder months. I love this grey jumper from Bimba Y Lola and I can guarantee you will too. Wear it with jeans for a cool and effortless look or team it up with a great skirt or over a dress for a more elevated look.

5. Wide Leg Trousers

I must admit that I have favoured skinny and cigarette style trousers over wider leg styles for quite sometime now but this year this great staple has found it's way back to my wardrobe and I'm loving it. Wide leg trousers are super flattering on most body shapes and look great with t-shirts, blouses, tailored shirts (for a dandy look) and even jumpers. Dress it down with a pair of white trainers or flat pumps. Dress it up with a great pair of boots. I love this from Topshop.
