Precious Williams is an author and journalist. Her first book is a memoir called "Precious, A True Story", published by Bloomsbury. Precious's journalism has appeared in numerous publications including the Telegraph, Elle and the Financial Times Weekend.

She studied English at Oxford University and Periodical Journalism (postgrad) at the London College of Printing. She is an Ambassador for the charity Africans Unite Against Child Abuse and she is at work on her second book, a novel.

Early on, probably before I could even talk or walk, I was given the message that being black was an affliction, that as a black human being I needed to be adulterated, corrected, improved. Even my mother - born and raised in Nigeria - seemed to want to de-Africanise me...

Last week, after 12 years of strict vegetarianism, I tucked into an oozing pink slab of sirloin steak. By the time the meat reached my plate, I hadn't eaten a morsel of meat during my entire adult life.
