2012 brings with it London 2012, the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, Celebrity Big Brother season two and a number of casualties in the celebrity relationship department. As if Katy Perry and Russell Brand's break up wasn't enough, two more couples have hit headlines recently amid rumours that they have split. Before I continue I just need to say that I am not usually surprised when celebrity couples split up because you usually see it coming, but the two couples that I am referring to in this post did actually shock me.
At the beginning of the week, Heidi Klum and Seal confirmed the end of their seven-year marriage (*sob*). In a joint-statement, the couple said:
"While we have enjoyed seven very loving, loyal and happy years of marriage, after much soul-searching we have decided to separate. We have had the deepest respect for one another throughout our relationship and continue to love each other very much, but we have grown apart. This is an amicable process and protecting the wellbeing of our children remains out top priority, especially during this time of transition. We thank our family, friends and fans for their kind words of support, and for our children's sake, we appreciate you respecting our privacy'.
However, it doesn't end there. If Seal and Heidi splitting up wasn't bad enough, there are rumours circulating that N-Dubz's Tulisa Contostavlos and Fazer Rawson have split up. Now, this comes as a complete surprise to me because they appeared to be so happy a few weeks ago whilst they were holidaying in the Maldives. Seriously, I was well jel when I saw the pictures!
Maintaining a relationship is hard work for us 'normal' people, I can't imagine what it must be like trying to conduct a relationship when you're in the public eye. Whatever the true reason for the splits (or rumoured split in the case of Tulisa and Fazer), you can't deny that it's incredibly sad to see couples split up who previously appeared to be completely in love with one another. Although, perhaps being in the public eye was one strain that their relationships couldn't take. For example, Tulisa and Fazer only recently made their relationship public and although they haven't discussed their relationship that much, the pictures of them holidaying in the Maldives were uncharacteristic of a couple who were rumoured to be extremely private about their relationship. If you contrast them with Beyonce and Jay-Z, who don't discuss their relationship at all, perhaps there is some truth in what I am saying.
Finally, before I stop wasting your time with my rambling, I just want to leave you with a quote that I completely agree with;
