Robin toiled in the music industry for the best part of two decades, working variously as a press officer, A&R man and occasional club promoter. After co-conceiving a self-funding arts and music zine with Paul Moody (Socialism, described by James Brown as "the last word in louche, eclectic, convention-busting journalism" in The Independent), the pair wrote The Rough Pub Guide, a celebration of the Great British Boozer. The follow-up, The Search For The Perfect Pub: Looking For The Moon Under Water, is a round Britain hunt for an alco-Nirvana that follows in the footsteps of George Orwell. It was recently described by the FT "part road trip, part pub guide and part lament, the enthusiasm for fine beers and charming independent pubs makes reading it very thirsty work". Robin co-founded the fishing and culture website Caught By The River in 2007. They have edited and published two collections of writing on British waterways and the countryside in general that feature contributions from the likes of Bill Drummond, Stuart Maconie, Jarvis Cocker, Irvine Welsh and Jon Savage.
