Roy Greenslade is Professor of Journalism at City University London, writes a daily blog about the media for The Guardian website and a weekly media column for the London Evening Standard. He has been a journalist for 47 years, starting on a local weekly and then a regional evening before going to Fleet Street in 1969. He has worked for most of Britain’s national newspapers, and was assistant editor of The Sun, managing editor (news) at The Sunday Times and editor of the Daily Mirror, 1990-91. He is on the board of the academic quarterly, the British Journalism Review. He is the author of three books, including a biography of the late press tycoon, Robert Maxwell and a history of British newspapers, Press Gang: How Newspapers Make Profits From Propaganda. He divides his year between England and Ireland.
