Many of the stars from last season have failed to turn up. While others have taken the opportunity to shine in their absence... Here, Oulala reveal the Premier League's team of the season so far, purely based on cold hard statistics.

We're almost a third of the way through the 2015/16 Premier League season and things are shaping up nicely for what's set to be an interesting campaign.

The title is likely to be a three horse race with Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal the expected front-runners. However, surprise package Leicester City will have something to say about that.

Then there's the turmoil at Stamford Bridge with last season's champions Chelsea who are facing a potential relegation battle. You couldn't make it up.

Fantasy football game www.oulala.com have used their extensive database of statistics which takes into account 70 different criteria and have analysed the stats of each and every Premier League player this season.

Here, Oulala reveal the Premier League's team of the season so far, purely based on cold hard statistics.

Goalkeeper - Jack Butland

Stoke's Jack Butland is statistically the best performing keeper in both the Premier League and Europe this season. The 22-year-old has kept four clean sheets in his last five games and has registered 40 saves, an average of 3.3 per game. Butland has also made 44 claims, racking up an impressive success-rate of 98%.

Defender - Laurent Koscielny

Laurent Koscielny is the Premier League's best performing defender this season. Oulala's stats echo this accolade with an 89 per cent passing accuracy, 11 tackles won, 43 interceptions and 62 clearances. The Frenchman has also won 57 per cent of his duels and has scored two goals.

Defender - Scott Dann

According to the stats, Crystal Palace centre-back Scott Dann is the Premier League's top performing English defender this season, despite being overlooked by Roy Hodgson. The 28-year-old has won eight tackles, made 16 interceptions, 17 blocks and 70 clearances for Palace. He has also weighed in at the other end of the pitch scoring two goals and providing one assist.

Defender - Virgil van Dijk

Southampton's summer signing Virgil van Dijk has taken to the Premier League quickly. The former Celtic player is ranked the third best performing defender in the EPL this season. The Dutchman has recorded an 85 per cent pass completion, has won 11 tackles, 24 interceptions, 63 blocks and has won an excellent 68 per cent of his duels. He has also netted two goals for the Saints this term.

Midfielder - Riyad Mahrez

Arguably the Premier League's player of the season so far, Leicester's Riyad Mahrez has been excellent. The Algerian has scored seven goals and provided five assists to help the Foxes up to third place in the EPL. The 24-year-old has also registered a pass completion of 73 per cent, won 39 take ons and provided a further 19 key passes.

Midfielder - Dimitri Payet

West Ham are set to be without their standout performer Dimitri Payet for a reported three months after the former Marseille player was ruled out with an ankle injury. It will be a huge loss for the Hammers judging by the Frenchman's performances this season. Payet has scored five goals and assisted a further three for his side. The 28-year-old has also registered an 82 per cent passing accuracy and has provided 43 key passes.

Midfielder - Georginio Wijnaldum

New boy Georginio Wijnaldum has bedded in quickly at Newcastle and has been their star man so far this season. The former PSV player has scored six goals (including four in one game) and provided two assists. Wijnaldum has also registered an 85 per cent pass completion and made 14 key passes.

Midfielder - Yann M'Vila

Defensive midfielder Yann M'Vila has been a shining light in a somewhat poor season for Sunderland. The new signing has scored one goal and provided three assists, however it's his defensive stats that warrant his inclusion into the Premier League team of the season. The 25-year-old has won 26 tackles and made 32 interceptions and 46 clearances. He has also clocked up a passing accuracy of 83 per cent.

Midfielder - Mesut Özil

Mesut Özil is blowing the rest of Europe way this season thanks to the 10 assists that he has registered for Arsenal in the Premier League. The German is also impressing in other areas. He has recorded a pass completion of 88 per cent at a rate of 52 successful passes per game. He has scored one goal and has clocked up 44 key passes.

Striker - Jamie Vardy

Leicester City's Jamie Vardy has been the standout Premier League striker this season. His 12 goals in 12 games alongside his current record breaking run of scoring in nine consecutive Premier League games during the same season is impressive in itself. His goal scoring exploits are backed up with a shot conversion-rate of 25 per cent and a shot accuracy of 59 per cent.

Striker - Alexis Sánchez

Winger Alexis Sánchez has continued where he left off last season. The Chilean has impressed again for Arsenal in his second season at the club and Oulala's stats back it up. The 26-year-old has scored six goals and recorded an 81 per cent pass completion while also providing 20 key passes and completing 33 successful take-ons.
