Over the past couple of seasons, I've felt that the Premier League has become a little bit stale.
People talk about La Liga and more recently the Bundesliga becoming the best league in the world and I'd agree. The Premier League lost a lot of its' glamour when the likes of Henry, Ronaldo and Mourinho started leaving for America, Spain and Italy, respectively.
There was no real excitement about the Premier League. The only point of note really being on who Manchester City would throw their cash at or who would be the next manager at Chelsea after the previous one has lasted all of eight weeks, or something ridiculous.
However, this season I can't help but feel there is an added buzz from various different aspects of the league and it's rekindling the special vibe that usually surrounds English football.
It doesn't get much better than seeing Mourinho back at the Bridge, combine this with the appointment of Moyes at Machester United and it makes for an interesting start to the season.
Mourinho lives with the media in the palm of his hand, and although you may not be a fan of his mind games you have to admire the hysteria he alone creates. Talking of which, the press haven't let Moyes have a minutes breathing space since he took over on July 1st, which is understandable coming in to one of the biggest clubs in world football. Every detail has been analysed and despite winning nothing with Everton he is one of the most promising managers in recent times and I have no doubts he'll be a success at Old Trafford.
Liverpool look to be returing to their winning ways, they ended the last season strong and have continued that form in the first two games of this campaign. A competitive Liverpool side is good for the league, there is the rivalry with United and Everton which is fierce and difficult to match world wide - although I don't think they'll make fourth.
There are also new managers who come in to their positions at City and Everton with promising reputations. Pellegrini took Malaga in to the Champions League and although Martinez took Wigan in to the Championship he did so with the team playing an attractive brand of football, winning the FA Cup in the process which is no mean feat - ask Arsenal fans who would beg for any silverware.
Championship winners, Cardiff City, enter the league for the first time and opened their account yesterday with an impressive home win over last years runners up, Manchester City. There is a lot of talk about how they will do this year and although they have been tipped to go straight back down they have spent will in the likes of Caulker and Medel.
All this is before you even consider the summer dramas over Bale, Rooney and Suarez. It looks as if the latter two of the three will stay, whilst Bale is set to become the most expensive player in footballing history.
Overall, I think the Va Va Voom of the Premier League is returning - we'll have to wait and see over the course of the season, but I don't think it will be one to disappoint.
