Healthcare in Crisis: Can Simon Cowell Reinvent Himself From Mr Nasty to Mr Nice to Help Solve Britain's Dilemma?

He's conquered the world of TV, but is Simon Cowell ready for a change of direction as he fronts a campaign for better healthcare?

It could be the most unlikely career turn around than the Terminator Arnold Schwarzenegger becoming Governor of LA.

If there was an opening for a new Mother Teresa, master of reinvention Simon could be a contender after his star turn at a charity function last Thursday.

Jetting into London (no doubt in style) from LA, he backed a bid to improve healthcare for the sick and disadvantaged of Britain.

Joining forces with his bff, Northern and Shell media mogul Richard Desmond, they got a buzz going about raising awareness of the health issues in the UK. Simon just needs to call up a few famous names in his bulging address book and no doubt half the world's problems would be solved.

The project, The Health Lottery, has raised over £32million for health-related good causes within communities as well as giving away £52million in prizes.

Now, with the sad reality that people are dying because they cannot get the right help, let's hope Cowell can spread the word for free healthcare in the USA too, where he is a household name.

It seems the X Factor supremo has the Midas touch as I joined him in a room full of celebrities who he had also invited for afternoon tea at London's plush Claridges.

Everyone was hanging off his every word, as Mr Smooth, chaperoned by his entourage of gorgeous lady friends, got his message across.

He said: "The sad truth is we don't have enough money in this country to support and help a lot of issues.

"The fact he (Richard Desmond) has set something up which is raising millions of pounds, to me is a great thing. "

Simon spent the afternoon chatting to representatives from various charities.

Watching him work the room, he seemed more at ease and in his element mixing with the elderly and people the charity money was helping, than some of the tone deaf hopefuls on X Factor's early rounds.

He said: "A lot of the charity stuff I do with Richard, we actually go down and meet the people who benefit from the money", adding "I hope people recognise that things have been done and want to get involved personally by showing up and spreading the word".

Celebrities including Girls Aloud Kimberley Walsh, Rylan Clark, Sid Owen, Georgia Salpa, Mick Norcross, Adee Phelan, Blue and Liberty X star Michelle Heaton attended the do.

Many of whom went on to a star-studded Haven House charity catwalk show in Essex where guests tucked into special Easter Krispy Kreme donuts, before moving the party on to the lush Icon Balcony Bar in Leicester Square for cocktails and pan-Asian delights at the FuLuShou restaurant.

Now, Simon may not be short of a bob or two, but the Syco records and One Direction boss has had his fair share of (first world) troubles too before getting to the top.

Richard Desmond said: "Like myself, Simon left school early and therefore understands the struggle. We are lucky enough to get the breaks and walk through the doors, but neither of us have forgotten where we came from and how lucky we are".

A powerful Easter message Simon's fans will certainly not be forgetting in a hurry.
