The Paralympics have come a long way since 1948 when the "Parallel Games" were held for recuperating people at Stoke Mandeville hospital. This event has come to its spiritual home and the electric atmosphere at the opening ceremony was an inspiration. It showed up the world's rich diversity with people...

It was several years ago, 2008 I think, when one of our Commissioners, Professor Stuart Green had a little rant about legacy. We spent a lot of time talking about the social and economic legacy of East London and the environmental standards of the developments but Stuart had an alternative...

Expectations were high. London 2012 was expected to deliver the most sustainable Games ever. But will there be a legacy? I have always seen London 2012 as a sustainable regeneration project interrupted by a few weeks of sport. This is a view developed by the political leaders at the time...

When the competition is over, the judges' scores are counted and the chairperson of the judging panel adjudicates the result, which buildings will get the medals?
The obvious contender for Gold would be the wonderful Velodrome. For me this is the Jessica Ennis of buildings, the "Face of the Games"....

I have been intrigued by the media articles showing distraught West End shop keepers and restaurateurs bemoaning the Olympics for emptying their emporia of customers. It seems that the promise of economic prosperity for all driven by the magic Olympic rings has evaporated as quickly as Mark Cavendish's medal hopes....

I travel to London from a suburban town most days by train and in a typical day I may go to three or four places in London by public transport. I never come into London by car and I am too cowardly to cycle. I think this makes me a...

My team have been out on the streets of East London interviewing anti-corporate protestors coming together in a combined "Day of action" to use the London 2012 Games as a platform for their campaigns. After last week's Danny Boyle extravaganza the nation is feeling incredibly positive about the Games but...

Wow, what a show! Danny Boyle has shown why London is one of the world's great centres for the creative arts by turning the Olympic opening ceremony into a compelling piece of theatre depicting our progress from "ye olde England" to the modern, eclectic society we have become today.
Art...

Today WWF and BioRegional have published their report on the progress of the London 2012 Games in meeting its sustainability objectives. It has taken a huge collective effort to put these Games on track to be the most sustainable to date - from the organisers, to campaign groups like these,...

The torch relay has come to the country, signalling the start of London's third modern Olympics. People who have worked on Games in the past tell me that the attitude of the nation tends to change when the torch arrives; people start to get excited about the Games and more...

It was great to take our Commissioners on a tour of the Olympic Village and many thanks to Nigel Garfitt, Tony Sainsbury and the team from LOCOG for patiently showing us round and giving us their valuable time so close to the Games.
The first impression of the experience is...

The Commission for a Sustainable London 2012 is the body responsible for assuring the sustainability of the London 2012 programme. London's bid promised the most sustainable Games to date and the Commission is there to provide independent assurance over this objective. I have had the honour to chair the Commission...
