Betting on The Grand National Was More Fun for Clueless People

(0) Comments | Posted 9 April 2016 | (17:49)

Everyone's betting on the Grand National and nobody knows what they're doing.
That's how Saturday 9th played out amongst my friends.

Our friend Libby had an amazingly fluky win a few years ago- betting a meagre amount on a horse that was 100/1 that actually, somehow, managed to win-...

Why the UK Just Can't Get Enough of Nature

A discussion about bovine lactation on the Archers, between father and daughter duo David and Pip no longer feels as uncomfortable and irrelevant as it once might have*. Unless you thought you were listening to 6 Music**.

We have fast become a nation of enthusiastic, native animal fanciers. I...

Why Secret Santa Is Fraught with Danger

(0) Comments | Posted 8 December 2014 | (20:49)

It's the time of year to consider the awkward etiquette of anonymous gift giving.

Ding Dong Merrily On- bollocks I've got Gordon for secret Santa?? Really? Gordon?! Gordon smells of damp tea towels and has a weird nasal hair flutter when he...

Why Does Television Want Me to Love Yoghurt?

(0) Comments | Posted 27 July 2014 | (23:24)

This is what I've noticed about advertising (it's not a recent development, but I've been having such a dedicated, nightly liaison with Netflix that I've avoided television adverts for quite some time); only women like yoghurt. Particularly, women like eating yoghurt alone, in profile with their eyes shut.

Sitting with...

Why the Debate's More Than Just About Women Who Eat On Tubes

(0) Comments | Posted 13 March 2014 | (21:52)

I'm a member of divisive Facebook Group Women Who Eat On Tubes. I joined because I didn't like what I saw. If you've read enough on the subject, or need to alphabetise your dried herbs, you're excused.

Will François Hollande Cash in on His Lad Credentials?

(0) Comments | Posted 10 February 2014 | (16:42)

François Hollande must be undergoing a bit of a personality crisis at the moment. To be or not to be Europe's greatest rogue: that is the question. Until 2011 he was just your average social worker's son; bespectacled, unremarkable, a bit of a behind the scenes political flip-flopper...

Why Christmas Cookery Shows Are Punishing Us for Our Revelries

(0) Comments | Posted 16 December 2013 | (21:44)

Tis the season to wake up on Saturday mornings with a palpable sense of immediate guilt and shame about whatever it was you probably did last night. Even if you stayed in watching Lady and the Tramp eating an entire Iceland Beef Garland alone.

I thoroughly enjoy the Christmas Party...

Forget, Forget the Third of November

(0) Comments | Posted 1 November 2013 | (12:27)

What's that you say, it's nearly November? I feel like there's something I should....oh yes, remember!

The fifth, you say? Of course. Don't forget the fifth, that just wouldn't do. Because on the fifth, on the fifth of November some stuff happened, didn't it? There was this guy- that...

Does the Pope's Down With the People Approach Change the Content?

(0) Comments | Posted 31 July 2013 | (16:24)

The Guardian has been running a poll this week, asking whether Pope Francis has changed our views on the Catholic Church. For me this is a bit of an eggy one, as a footnote to the poll explains that this could be a change for the better, or...

Will Julian Assange Ever Leave the Fun House?

(4) Comments | Posted 10 July 2013 | (00:00)
