"Put on some high heels and a short skirt and come and meet me. The party needs livening up" he texted back, seemingly oblivious to the concept of feminism. And so I did. (I don't actually own a 'short skirt' but figured a nice pair of tailored shorts wouldn't disappoint.)

From never minding being single at all, the fact that I was spending most of my time at singles events made me feel permanently, terminally single. The more singles events I went to... the more I felt as if I was getting further and further away from actually meeting someone.

As with all things, the grass will always seem that little bit greener wherever you are not, and for every footloose and fancy free single girl out there enjoying carefree nights on the town, there's probably a pissed off, coupled up girlfriend, washing skid marked underpants on a Saturday night.

If "being single can be amazing", could it start being amazing in its economic reward, so the girl on the platform could be me, on my way to the airport to escape on a holiday with no extra costs where I can sip my two for one cocktails - for one.

A completely rational and intelligent friend recently shocked me by bravely confessing that 'I don't actually feel like my life will really start until I get married and have babies'. I guess I am different in that noone ever put the batteries into my biological clock.

This week I've learned two things. One that keeping bagels in the freezer means you get ice cubes with sesame seeds in. The second is that men have an uncanny knack of sensing when another male is sniffing round their territory.
