For people, for neighbourhoods, for the economy, for aspiration, for the strivers and all of those who do the right thing, we must say Yes to homes.

According to The Department of Communities and Local Government there are more than 1.7million families on housing waiting lists. Considering that Local Authorities throughout England commissioned the building of just 380 new homes in Q1 2011 we are unlikely to ever eradicate that backlog.

We have heard the Prime Minister goad the unions, price-up our forests, tinker with our NHS and, more recently, react to the mess of the phone hacking scandal, but we have heard him say next to nothing in regard to the shortage of housing - one of the main concerns facing young people.
