In the age of internet, big data has just become more commonplace and accessible. And it is growing, fast, and at astronomical rates. Every time we log onto the internet, every time we post on Facebook or Twitter, or purchase something on Amazon or EBay, or just do a Google search, we leave a trail of data. And all this goes into the databases of these websites or companies.
This is a pivotal time for the UK. Economic growth and a strong technology sector demand that business and UK education work towards the same goals in order to create highly skilled young people that have the ability to strengthen UK industry. Universities need to be flexible and address the needs of students.
It's a week now since technology giant Hewlett Packard (HP) tore up their plan to send 200 IT support jobs for the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) offshore to India. Faced with the target of a 40 per cent cut in department costs it seems the DWP was willing to 'offshore' the jobs to a lower cost location, but as the celebrations die down have any jobs really been saved?
