Cutting off women's hair has often been used as a punishment in conflict or in prisons. For many women their hair is an important part of their identity. And the style that they choose to wear is an important expression of who they are.
The recession has cut charity donations since 2008 in real terms - after adjustment for inflation - to the tune of about £900 million. Philanthropy in the UK has plummeted by almost a third between 2009 and 2010.
