Pretty Pastels With an Edge

It's that time of year again (although the weather would certainly disagree); with spring in full bloom and summer around the corner, candy colours are back! Flicking through the glossy pages of this month's Vogue, I can't help but be drawn to the ice blues, gentle lilacs, soft pinks, mint greens and lemon yellows.

The Start of a Beautiful Friendship...

Another thing that struck me was the lack of honesty in much (not all) beauty journalism. Many glossy mags, beauty columns and blogs simply can't, or won't, be honest because they are beholden to advertisers (it's never a coincidence that brands that advertise are featured editorially or win awards) or don't want to be crossed off a PR firm's Christmas card (and gift) list.

Karl Lagerfeld for Shu Uemura: The Unification of Two Icons

The descriptions "a man of many hats" and "renaissance man" do not even marginally do justice to what Karl Lagerfeld has achieved, and is indeed still achieving at the age of "79".

No Bunny Should Suffer for Beauty

I love animals. I grew up with lots of them, and I can't believe that I live in a country where cosmetics companies are still testing products on animals. Next year, we were supposed to be able to walk into any cosmetics shop in the EU and know that no rabbits or other animals had been harmed in the making of a single product. Most consumers agree that force-feeding chemicals to pregnant rabbits in laboratories is wrong - especially when there are 100 per cent humane non-animal testing methods available. Animals shouldn't suffer for shampoo and lip gloss.

Weekend Shopping: We Want Gold

Seems there's a gold rush going on at the moment everywhere (even the Team GB trophy cabinet) with glistening, golden shades shining from shop rails, beauty displays and shoe stores. When it comes to metallics I'm usually a silver or bronze girl although I do love a rose gold, especially for eyeshadows and jewellery.

Weekend Shopping: Standout Silver

I love busting out a silver shimmer- it's my go-to, year-round shade for adding sparkle to an outfit and I'm never without my Elsa Peretti for Tiffany open heart hoop style earrings, one of many silver chains and my beloved Frank Gehry torque ring but it's not just for jewellery. My disco ball style silver nails have been drawing lots of unsolicited compliments of late and I would lend someone my kitten for a pair of the silver Isabel Marant wedge heel trainers, pictured below.

Weekend Shopping: Bronze Is Beautiful

As a redhead (for now) bronze is also a really flattering shade for me and one I love wearing both as clothing, accessories and - carefully, no-one's talking matchy-matchy eyes/lips/cheeks 90s MAC Spice style here - cosmetics. Here's my pick of a few great bronze-toned pieces from fashion and beauty through to some gorgeous glassware.
