I never expected that I would have one of the world's leading fashion houses to thank for putting a spring in my step until I saw pictures of Dolce & Gabbana's autumn collection for 2013, unveiled at Milan Fashion week a few days ago.

The vibe in Milan was thick with these heavy fabrics, elegant, elongated cuts and timeless silhouettes, but some designers like Karl Lagerfeld, Donatella Versace and Peter Dundas contrasted the main themes, presenting rock inspired collections dedicated to the folky feel of the 1960s and 70s and the 1980s punk movement.

The Milan Fashion Week schedule is an impressive list of powerhouse labels from Armani, Prada, Fendi, Cavalli, Versace and Gucci. Italian luxury brands also appear impervious to the economic crisis thanks to demand from wealthy consumers in the Far East. So why is the Italian fashion establishment worried?

The Spring Summer 2013 bag collections during Milan Fashion Week were all about light-- through color, illumination, and weight.

With the four main Fashion Weeks just around the corner, I am looking forward to finally seeing the latest collections from some of the world's best designers. Whether I am lucky enough to be present at the shows, or if it's a case of catching up online afterwards, September marks the time of year I make my imaginary shopping list of coveted items, either for my styling clients or myself. With a jam-packed schedule in each city, and a host of brands to choose from, it can be a difficult task to name my favourites, however, I have tried to encapsulate below my "must-see" shows, and the designers I will have my eye on this season.
