Let's talk about lads. Specifically, lad culture. Call it what you like, dismiss it as a joke, but it doesn't hide the fact that it's just plain misogyny and sexism, with stereotypical, age-old notions of masculinity at the core.

It's the Official Patronising of Women Day: The Capitalist-Patriarchal Conspiracy of Mother's Day

Louise Pennington | Posted 10.05.2013 | UK Politics

Mother's Day, in its present form, is merely a another capitalist-patriarchal tool to beat women over the head with. It remains nothing more than a depressing attempt at brain-washing women into believing that 'their' work is valued. Women's work has never been valued. We still do the majority of the childcare and housework whilst in paid employment.

In many countries, like Uganda, Vietnam and Zambia, IWD is an official holiday, and is a tradition where some men honour their mothers, wives, girlfriends and colleagues with flowers and small gifts. This makes it sound like Valentine's Day, but for women only.

Women of the Middle East: oh those poor oppressed souls; forced to cover themselves from head to toe by their polygamous, blood relative husbands who consider them like a commodity. Or are they?

BLOG: "Why I Won't Support One Billion Rising"

The primary problem with One Billion Rising is its refusal to name the root cause of women's inequality; its outright refusal to point the finger at a patriarchal system which cultivates masculinity and which uses the control and subjugation of women's bodies as an outlet for that machoism.

A wife should never criticise her man or tell him what to do, lest he become angry enough to drink, and/or go off with another woman. Instead, she should concentrate on changing her own attitude, with the help of (a male) God.

Handmaidens, Feminism and Reclaiming the Internet

I care about making spaces safe online for women so, whilst I will never support the policies of Dorries and Mensch, I do think we need to stop belittling and denigrating them. It is possible to criticise their policies without making it personal and supporting the patriarchy in silencing women. That is what we do when we fall into denigrating women. We are effectively helping to silence other women's voices. Instead, we need to reclaim the Internet and make it the most subversive weapon we have against the patriarchy.

So in which direction does Page Three nudge us? Let me introduce the uninitiated to a little box called 'News in Briefs'. This little box purports to be the thoughts of the girl posing that day; they are presented in erudite fashion, and contain an esoteric quotation.

The Church of England is procrastinating whether women deserve equal promotion to senior clergy, initially proposing legislation that would mean "it would have enshrined in law the very prejudices against which supporters of female bishops have battled so long.

Dr Tasmia Mesbahuddin

Let's not fool ourselves, we only have to open the news these days to see horrific articles about women being raped, date raped, molested and faced with a deluge of sexual abuses for their appearances (I mean we have to be a certain shape, size or else we lose our appeal to the opposite sex!).
