They've done it! They crossed the line at around midnight Bajan time, 7 Feb 2011. What a day it's going to be and it has started very early for me. I woke at 4am to a massive tropical storm and am still wide awake, knowing it's not time to get up yet and knowing this morning I will be reunited with my lovely Robert "Bertie" Portal. I simply can't wait.
There is something very romantic about saying goodbye to the man you love whilst you stand on the shore and watch him disappear off into the horizon. I could have almost been mistaken for being the French Lieutenant's Woman had I not had a ferry to catch to Tenerife with all the other 'WAGs'. The emotions attached are a mix of excitement, pride, wonder, sadness, longing and pure unadulterated fear of what may be.
I remember the time when my partner, actor Robert Portal, aka Bertie, told me he was planning to row the Atlantic for charity. How could I forget? It was our first date and to be honest, although I was suitably impressed, I was more concerned with fluttering my eyelashes at him across the table. Little did I know what an enormous impact this man, his plans and the charity would have on my future. To say being at home while your partner rows the Atlantic is easy would be lying. Some days are better than others as we watch Patience the boat's little tracker line move slowly across the Atlantic.
