1000-Odd Words in the Mind of a Chugger

When I'm asked - as I regularly am - what my favourite part of my job is, I always smile and recall the Tardos that I've enjoyed a bit of verbal sparring with. They're the exception rather than the rule this lot, but when you come across one it's like finding an extra veggie sausage hiding under your free-range, corn-fed, organic poached egg at breakfast. They really do brighten up my day.

Anyway, the point is that those idiots who persist with the benighted philosophy that swearing is neither big nor clever should be pointed gently towards The Thick of It where they'll have their eyes opened to a veritable renaissance of ribaldry.

Last weekend I was thrown into a fresh new hell. I'm in my late 30s. On my way to a music festival in my 20s I would have thought about my three-day-wardrobe for weeks. In my late 30s with three kids to look after, it only occurred to me as I was packing.

When I started as a 28 year old freshman, I knew that I wasn't going to be living the life of a stereotypical student. I also knew that despite a ten years' experience of living in the 'real world', I was still terrified of public speaking.

Page Three: Shouldn't We All Be Petitioning The Daily Mail, Too?

As both a woman and someone with boobs, I'm fully behind Lucy Holmes' petition asking Dominic Mohan to "Take Page 3 out of the Sun. But I'd argue that the newspaper which is far more damaging to women's self esteem - and equally if not more adept at portraying them as merely physical objects - is the Daily Mail. Day after day - and hour after hour on its website, the Mail Online - the Daily Mail continues to bombard us with 'stories' about women which revolve solely around how they look.

There's Mitt Romney who looks a bit constipated, then there's Barrack Obama who is too serious to make fun of. And then there's the actual politics. It's not going anywhere. It's stuck. They're all still arguing about the same things they were arguing about two years ago.

How Peep Show Saved the Sitcom

Mark enters a relationship with Sophie (Olivia Colman) and finds, quite rapidly, that... he doesn't really like her. This isn't anyone's fault, neither are presented as terrible human beings. They're just fundamentally incompatible and only end up steamrolling into marriage due to crippling mutual loneliness.

I have spent the whole of these Paralympic games marvelling at these extra-ordinary, brave, inspirational human beings. There are blind guys playing football, a British female relay-team with cerebral palsy and David Weir who was described as the "greatest Paralympian of all time".

I won't lie. I was starting to give up on humanity. I was feeling generally miserable about recent reports of record amounts of melting ice in the Arctic, Mitt Romney's eternally moronic campaign in the US and our current situation of ever rising economic destruction and damning of human rights by the Coalition.

Why 'Bad Education' Is Bad Sitcom

P.J. Baker

Bad Education is currently top of the "Most Popular" programmes on BBC iPlayer, so I thought I'd give it a look. Oh dear. It quickly becomes clear that the writer has never spent any time in a state school. Or in a multi-cultural environment of any kind.
