To me, it's simple. If a man assaults you, you walk. If he lays one finger on your kids, you walk. Of course, I'm saying that as a strong woman, and I understand many women will find themselves undermined and emotionally abused by their partners to the point where they no longer feel able to fight.

As the plane touched down in Freetown, my thoughts turned to my baby son, at home. I'd come to a country where one in five children dies before the age of five. I'd read that fact over and over again and - as I stepped onto the dusty tarmac in Sierra Leone - a mixture of guilt and relief mingled inside, knowing my own flesh and blood was healthy and safe.

All of my efforts over the past forty years have been concerned essentially with one central principle - the well-being of the individual. Not the isolated individual. My emphasis has constantly been on the individual within community. People do not thrive without the support of a community so, in my view, if the hope is that people prosper, find happiness and feel that all important sense of satisfaction and belonging, then we have to maintain the fabric of community and not let it become threadbare.

Six hours after setting off from Barcelona Team 6 reached a very sunny Cannes in the south of France. However, not everyone on the Cash and Rocket tour arrived in such good time... One team made it to Cannes swiftly, only it was the Cannes in the north of the country. It was when they started to see signs for Paris that they realised they might have gone awry.

Guilty of insulting the president, guilty of being gay, guilty of standing up for women's rights. I explained that it's often repressive laws that puts many of the people on whose behalf Amnesty work behind bars.

The film is about a bunch of gangsters arranging a meeting to plan a heist. It stars A list British actors Ray Winstone.

The Internet has been a wonderful thing in terms of communication. Except that, humans have a long history of bullying each other when communicating in a variety of forms before the Internet. Yet that was a world where your only communication was via face-to-face dialogue, a letter or a phone call.

Food banks are only dealing with the injuries, the deep gaping wounds left by fundamental flaws in the running of this country. They are not a solution. To paraphrase Desmond Tutu, there comes a point where you need to stop simply pulling people out of the river, and you need to go upstream, and find out why they're falling in. There comes a point when you need to stop raging against the machine and shouting at the rain and instead, present solutions for the broken system.

In the days leading up to G8 there have been a series of focused campaigns, initiatives and events designed to raise awareness of specific policy issues which will be up for discussion at the summit. World hunger is one such issue, around which an impressively broad and powerful campaign called Enough Food For Everyone IF has mobilised, calling hunger "the great scandal of our age."

As long ago as 2006 President Bush acknowledged (after lengthy rumours) that the US had transported to Guantánamo 14 "high value" detainees previously held by the CIA in a secret location.
