Education is the very best weapon we have in the fight against prejudicial, discriminatory and hateful attitudes towards LGBT people, educators must put the safety and well-being of children first, even if that means facing some unpalatable truths about their own practice.

We aren't going to take this lying down- we are going to campaign and raise awareness until our Union ratifies us. I am here for at least two more years, and by the time I leave, our University will have a ratified FemSoc. I hope that our Union deigns to give us a good answer why they have decided not to support feminism on campus soon, and I hope that they reconsider our plea.

We have to consider the impact that allowing these organisations to speak in schools has on children. While these speakers don't necessarily express homophobia in their presentations, it would be very easy for students to come across the materials of their organisations which argue against same-sex marriage and LGBTQ rights on the internet, radio, TV, etc. SPUC for example regularly appears in mainstream media.

In the past week pupils at St Mary Magdalen's Church of England Primary School in Accrington, Lancashire, have learned of the sudden death of their teacher, Miss Meadows. While we do not yet know the cause of death, many believe that Meadows took her own life on Tuesday afternoon.

Last month, I started a Change.org petition to get the term "transphobia" added to the both the Oxford English Dictionary and Microsoft Office's dictionary lexicon. The petition gained 500 signatures in just five hours and now stands at over 9,000.
