Something We All Need for Ramadan "Spirtual Declutter"

It's a declutter Ramadan party and your invited by getting rid of everything that didn't matter, I made room for everything that did. Thirty day Ramadan Goal 2015, I am more than often persuaded to do things I don't feel like doing and that is clearing out my junk.

You have probably read blogs and articles on how people fast with the spirit of refrain and voluntarily give up from every day kind of selfish desires and wrong-doing. The fast is not merely of body, but essentially that of the spirit as well. The physical fast is a symbol and outward expression of the real inner fast. We learn to give, and not to take. The deprivation of fasting makes us sympathise with the suffering of others, and desirous of alleviating it. It makes us remember the blessings of life which we normally take for granted. Charity and generosity is especially urged during Ramadan.

What a better time than to reflect and declutter your stuff from your mind, but also from your space. As the saying goes be more with less after this Ramadan by clearing out your clutter. Understandably, it can be a tough challenge especially if you are a hoarder and let it build up every year. The Ramadan litmus test starts out of sight out of mind, out of my space!

Instead of setting aside a couple of days do it daily in the month of Ramadan. Recycle an item every day, recycle, donate or even sell it online. Ashamedly, I admit to keeping scraps of wrapping papers, receipts I don't need, magazines. The clothes that don't fit... the tight Kameez (Asian top), the sari blouse, and the kitchen stuff, old makeup, extra buttons...... an endless list.

Keep repeating this mantra for 30 days, "shed the surplus", so I have gone through my target space and removed everything that doesn't fit into my current needs and lifestyle. I remind myself not to keep things that might be useful "someday" the kabhi kushi kabhi gham days (somethings happy sometimes sad)................ Bollywood track comes to my mind, whoops..... Back to my goal.

Keep things that are useful and a necessity for the following of the year. Just because somebody else decided to give you something you don't have to keep it out of loyalty. Give it away to someone who will make use of it.

Most importantly, family and friends - look at the people you have around you on a regular basis and think about how they make you feel. If you are spending a lot of time with someone who makes you feel rubbish about yourself then spend a bit less time with them. Spend more time with people who make you feel good about yourself. Most recently, My Aunt the family honcho gossiper too ready to share family gossip and rumours about me, even in Ramadan. Stalked by her on WhatsApp. Even when you block her on WhatsApp she constantly calls your mobile no and leaves voice messages. She doesn't stop until she has the opportunity to talk to you in personal on the land line. Even when I explain to her how I feel in a calm and respectful manner, Auntie Jee is insensitive to my expression and continues to stalk the whole family. Unfortunately a common behaviour, but she sends me a further message to say "If a person talks to herself about someone else who mistreated her, is that regarded as backbiting?" My reply "Allah knows all".

So light up your space and remember declutter your mind and your physical surrounding. Summer is the best time for a clear out. Another song comes to my mind ... Let it go! go! Gone.... Blessing of Ramadan to you all!
