The Mother (in-Law) of All Weeks

After the fast living, rock star adrenaline pumped existence of nonstop touring, partying and god knows what else, the Glam Rocker announced it would take a while to settle back into civvy life. To hasten the process, within two hours of his arrival, jet-lagged and plane-weary, I dragged him straight to the antenatal unit for our 20-week scan. Continue reading...

How King Henry VIII Influenced 21st Century Dating

Everyone knows him by name and by horrible song; King Henry VIII is one of the most iconic figures in all of history. Whether it's the fact that he married his dead older brother's wife, Catherine, or that he wanted a divorce so badly he started his own church, Henry's a trailblazer in many ways. Continue reading...

A Bittersweet Date With the Guy Who Dared Me to Say It Was Over

We have slept together only twice, the last time such an amazing display of sexual incompatibility it should have been sketched for a textbook on how not to do it. I was left with merely an aching arm and a throb I had to alleviate alone. Continue reading...

1 in 3 Women Living With Discomfort, Indignity and Fear for Want of a Toilet

Across the world, 1 in 3 women risk shame, disease, harassment and even attack because they have nowhere safe to go to the toilet. That's 1.25 billion women - daughters, sisters, mothers, grandmothers. Facing each day without access to this basic necessity is not just an inconvenience; it impacts on all aspects of life, and it is women and girls who suffer the most. Having nowhere safe to go to the toilet also means an increased risk of shame, harassment and even violence for women and girls when they are forced to go out in search of a private place to go to the toilet. Continue reading...

'Gaybrows', Girl Talk and the Sunday Times' Brand of Smart-casual Homophobia

Being Honest About Religion

It has been alleged that Savita Halappanavar, who was seventeen weeks pregnant, died in an Irish hospital after being denied an abortion - an abortion which might have saved her life. Sunday Roundup

This week, America finally began questioning the judgment of its generals. The problem is that the judgment being judged is about sexual conduct rather than military conduct. The real scandal is that U.S. and allied soldiers are still dying in Afghanistan at a rate of one per day, as America's longest war drags on. Gen. David Petraeus, who led our efforts in Afghanistan for a year, deserved public scrutiny long before Paula Broadwell and Jill Kelley finally brought it to him. The media bears plenty of culpability.
