Recipe for the Weekend: Tagliatelle With Asparagus, Crème Fraîche, Egg and Parmesan

Posted: 11/08/2012 00:00

I thought a special tagliatelle con asparagi, crème fraîche, egg and parmesan would be a great addition to the Olympic 2012 celebrations this weekend.

This wonderful dish is very tasty, but not too rich, and perfect with a nice bottle of oaked chardonnay.

Enjoy.

Plenty of asparagus from Peru in my local Tesco. I'll be cooking up this sumptuous feast soon as.

For what it is worth, there isn't anywhere in the US or the UK where fresh local asparagus is available. It's mid-August already. There's been no local asparagus since June, at least.

Mr. Randall, it wouldn't hurt you any to focus on recipes that are at least a bit more seasonal than this. Being mid-August, there is a vast bounty of seasonal produce you might have chosen to highlight instead of asparagus.

Are you going to give us rhubarb for Michaelmas?

There was British asparagus on sale until a couple weeks ago here in Kilburn, London (in Sainsbury's!), and this film was made a few weeks ago due to production scheduling here on the HuffPostUK. It's a great recipe though as ever from Theo and great that he is sharing them with our readers don't you think? x

You know that it was British-raised asparagus for sale in Kilburn in June or July, and not simply the asparagus that is imported because asparagus has gone out-of-season?

In any case, this was posted on August 8th. Presumably to be read by people in the days following August 8th. Asparagus isn't in season in Kilburn on August 8th or the days following.

It's a lovely recipe that would have been most welcome in spring and early summer of 2012, or spring and early summer of 2013. On August 8th, 2012, one doesn't expect out-of-season recipes for asparagus. It's like a recipe for fresh broad beans in January.

I'm sure Theo could post some seasonal recipes if Theo thought it through. If you are looking for "great," contact Theo and offer him a calendar.
