Freelance writer, PR consultant and previous Olympic hopeful. Inspired by the 1984 Olympics in LA my original plan was to compete in 1992 Games in Barcelona. But a misspent youth and a positively non-Olympic 11.6 seconds in the 100 metres ended that dream for good, not to mention the inability to clear more than 1,20 metres in the high jump.

Many moons later the universe seems to have finally answered my prayers and somehow I've ended up performing at the London 2012 Opening Ceremony, an Olympic dream of sorts I guess but only Show Day on the 27th July will tell.

Before this week's rehearsal I was invited to my friend's British citizenship ceremony. Originally from Australia Bruce (he would be called Bruce, wouldn't he?) had been living in London for the last eight years but recently decided to become Her Majesty's latest loyal subject. And he wasn't the only one....

Diary of an Olympic Volunteer: Singing in the Rain

There comes a point in every Olympic volunteer's life when you just can't help wondering precisely what mood elevator Gene Kelly was on when he wholeheartedly belted out his signature Singing in the Rain whilst happily splashing through puddle after puddle. Diary of an Olympic Volunteer: Everyone Loves a Good Countdown

(1) Comments | Posted 21 July 2012 | (00:00)

From Big Ben's traditional role in our New Year's Eve celebrations to the hard-to-miss Olympic Torch relay, everyone loves a good countdown. Let's face it, half the Olympic media coverage is made up of stories marking milestones such as '100 days to go to the Games' or, in my case...
