If we were to look back 10 to 15 years or so, the dating scene was a largely stigmatized method of meeting new people and starting relationships but oh, how things have changed. With some sites claiming that nearly 20% of all of their matches end in marriage, it's easy to see how the online dating scene has boomed.
There are countless sites that promise to pair you up if you're over 50, looking for a casual fling, looking for marriage or just informal dating; everyone is catered for in the online dating market...wrong. One group of people that seems to have been overlooked until recently are students and with over 3 million students across the UK in higher education, we found this quite bizarre.
We asked a number of students and young people what they thought about the fact that students are often overlooked on dating sites and the general feel was there is a misled opinion amongst many that students must meet people regularly because they're always out, however most of the students we spoke to reminded us that this wasn't the case.
Ed Bowe from the University of Plymouth told us that he would welcome a student based dating website and believes there is a real market for it. He says 'University is a great place for meeting new people, but it's not always easy to find the right people for relationships when everyone is out partying most nights'. Thankfully, the clever lads down at www.freshmeet.co.uk have come up with a new online dating service especially for the student market.
'Fresh Meet' is a clever new way for students to interact and meet new people. It's the UK's first dedicated student dating website, providing students with yet another handy resource for meeting new people. We spoke with the creators of the site, Tom Witcherley and Anthony Purkiss who came up with the idea soon after graduating University. Tom Witcherley says 'When I was a student, my entire life was planned around social activity; I was always on the lookout for my next big adventure'.
FreshMeet is designed to break the typical conventions of online dating. Its independent feel, fresh layout and quirky branding all contribute towards an online resource that's clever and technical but ultimately, fun.
Director, Anthony Purkiss believes that FreshMeet 'will be the icing on the cake for current and new students on the search to spice up their term time' Anthony continues 'Student's don't have to date someone within their clique anymore, they can meet someone new and exciting that they never knew existed...you never know, they might even live on the same street!'
FreshMeet is a new and clever way to meet like-minded students and certainly a site that is going to give a lot of the popular dating sites a run for their money!
