You Need A Vicky - Plastic, Boring and New?

I think there is a common view that storage has to come in flat packs or it has to be new and with crisp edges or indeed plastic and formal... boring even!

Well after researching daily many many types of storage and ways of utilising new and unusual items and furniture I can most definitely say that this does not have to be the case.

I am somewhat an addict when it comes to storage and organisation it goes without saying, and although for my clients I have many items that I will use regularly, some of them actually prefer and request something a little different to go with their quirky style or uniquely decorated homes.

I found the perfect solution in a newly discovered shop...

What The Butler Saw - Leigh-On-Sea

Vintage (inexpensive) suitcases to store photographs? Brilliant. These not only look fantastic and come in so many shapes and sizes but are a practical way of keeping all of those wonderful prints together. My lovely friend Susie and I went to a shop in Leigh on Sea called 'What The Butler Saw' and I'm not exaggerating when I say we spent most of the day in there and it's sister shop, the slightly more modern, but fantastically priced 'Mad Dogs and Englishmen'

Tony Hazell (Owner - What The Butler Saw) is one of the friendliest and most enthusiastic people about his findings. He also now invites other concessions to display in the fantastic maze of rooms in his shop. The vintage kitchen section is a wonder of old cabinets and crockery - inspirational for anyone who has decided to get a new look (well old - you know what I mean!)

There is a whole room, (albeit small) of suitcases, trunks and bags - all with so much character and history. I bought a 1950's cream suitcase in immaculate condition for £35.00. An absolute bargain. There is so much more!

For anyone who is looking for recycled furniture or units and work tops - anything really, Tony is an expert at building furniture from wood that he has salvaged from old buildings being torn down, churches, houses, anything really..... Can you imagine having a kitchen made from an old church?! Well there is one on display and I have fallen in love with it! This shop is situated next door so not far to walk at all.

For any kind of quirky storage I highly suggest you visit these two wonderful shops and allow yourself a good half a day to do so. Susie and I darted from one to the other, back and forth and had a fantastic day doing so.

I highly recommend this. One of the best finds in years!

I will be returning very soon...
