Hello Boys! Vogue Paris Looks at Menswear Fall/Winter 2013-2014

Menswear is traditionally based around sleek, tailored looks, but as Men's Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2013-2014 proved, designers take these classic conventions and run. Over the week, the standard men's suit morphed into different colours, unique patterns and diverse fabrics, and the simple men's sweater enlarged in size, popped in bright colours, assumed leather accents or changed completely and turned into an on-trend sweatshirt, while the typical men's trouser was loosened and rolled up, or tightened and detailed.

Hedi Slimane's first menswear collection for Saint Laurent showed us rock through the ages, Louis Vuitton's Kim Jones guided us through his recent trip to Bhutan and Nepal, and Sir Paul Smith took a classic collection and stirred it up with funky colours and unconventional textures.

Through Milan, London and Paris, the Fall/Winter 2013-2014 menswear collections turned the tables on tradition and livened things up, showing that women don't have all the fun when it comes to fashion.

Hedi Slimane presented his highly anticipated menswear collection as the new creative director of Saint Laurent this season with a look at rock through the ages. From the golden age of classic rock passing through 1990s grunge and finishing with the indie hipster, Mick Jaggers, Kurt Cobains and Pete Dohertys emerged on the runway in layers of leather, denim, fur, chunky knits, stripes, animal print and plaid. Textures were blended as flannel was worn over distressed denim and wrapped in cable knit, and sizes and lengths were mixed and matched as loose grungy plaid was paired with tight leather pants and floor length scarves.

Pathetic season ahead for menswear, if these
designer's designs are the best we have coming.

Too much, too muddled and too effeminate. I am
gay & I am appalled at these designs - who can wear
them? (or would want to?)

I'm still confused if the designer thought he was doing a costume design for drag.  It isterribly ostentatious and tacky.
