Karl Lagerfeld set the scene for a spectacular show by transforming Paris' Grand Palais into a Goethe and Schiller-inspired woodland with a neoclassical amphitheatre at its heart. Models sporting dramatic headdresses and intense black eye make-up paraded a collection featuring the classic Chanel two-piece updated with statement shoulders, evening gowns with light-as-air puffball skirts and structured, sequinned floor-length dresses. The traditional bridal gown finale featured two brides walking hand-in-hand, leaving the fashion set to speculate that Lagerfeld was making a bold statement about the same-sex marriage laws in France, a hot topic at the moment.
