Man Found Dead In Woods After Shooting At Newport, Gwent, South Wales Hair Salon, Three Women Injured

Man Found Dead In Woods After Shooting At South Wales Hair Salon

UPDATE 10:30pm: A man has been found dead in woods, following a shooting at a hairdressing salon in Newport, South Wales, police have reported.

PRESS ASSOCIATION --Gwent Police had been looking for the man involved in the incident at the salon, named locally as Carol Ann's Hair Stylist, in Newport, South Wales, on Friday afternoon.

One woman was shot in the knee after a man armed with a gun went into the shop at around 2.20pm, police said. Another woman suffered an injury to the neck and a third was injured in the arm, but police would not confirm whether they had been shot. None of the injuries are said to be life-threatening.

A spokeswoman said: "A male had entered the premises with a firearm. Officers have recovered a firearm from the premises. A female received a gunshot wound to the knee. Another female has an injury to the neck and another female an injury to the arm. At this time the nature of these injuries has not been confirmed."

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said three people had been taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital.

Local councillor Paul Cockeram, who represents the ward where the shooting happened, said it was believed to be a domestic incident involving one of the women who worked in the salon.

"I heard it was a domestic - whether it's a husband or partner, I don't know," he said. "He came in and apparently fired indiscriminately, hitting several people. From what I have heard, the person he was after worked in the shop. And obviously he hit other people in there as well.

"The shop is obliterated apparently. It's amazing nobody died. I've heard some of them are in surgery at the moment. The salon is predominantly a more senior sort of hairdresser's salon. There would have been a lot of elderly people in there, I would have thought. They would have been extremely frightened."

The man is rumoured to be from the local area, Mr Cockeram added. Police helicopters had been "all over" Newport, searching for the suspect.
