The man who killed head teacher Philip Lawrence in 1995 broke down in tears in court today after being found not guilty of robbery.
Prosecutors had said Learco Chindamo used his notoriety as Philip Lawrence’s killer to steal from David Sexton in north London last November.
It was claimed he asked Sexton: "Do you remember about the head teacher in Maida Vale?"
But Chindamo, now 31, was cleared of the offence. Defence lawyers said Sexton gave Philip Lawrence’s killer the money to as a “peace offering” after Sexton called him a "killer".
During the trial the jury was told members of the public often reproach Chindamo over the murder of Philip Lawrence.
Both Chindamo and fellow defendants Saeed Akhtar, 32 and Gregory Jananto, 32 were cleared of robbery.
